Manually Mapping the I: and H: Drives

On Jan 18, 2025, the mapping for the H: drive changed and so previous links or shortcuts will no longer work. The instructions below have been updated to use the new mapping but if you have old shortcuts, we recommend deleting them. 
The I: and H: drives are networked file servers maintained by UW-ITThe I: drive contains shared folders whose permissions are controlled by group membership and the H: drive is only accessible by you.
Both networks drives can only be accessed if you are using a protected UW network connection. If you're on campus or in a UW building, then a wired connection or the "eduroam" Wifi network should allow you to access them.
If you are not on campus, then you will need to first connect to the Husky OnNet (Big-IP Edge) VPN.
The instructions below are only usable for Microsoft Windows computers. If you are using a Mac, please refer to this article

Connect to I: Drive

  1. Verify that you're connected to a campus network connection or to the Husky OnNet (Big-IP Edge) VPN.
  2. Open your computer's file manager and right-click on This PC and select Map Network Drive

  3. In the dialog
    1. Select I: as the Drive 
    2. In the folder, type \\netid.washington.edu\mws\groups\gh
    3. Select "Connect with different credentials"
    4. (Optional) Select "Reconnect at sign-in"
    5. Click Finish

  4. When you are prompted for your credentials, enter netid\ and then your UW NetID

Connect to H: Drive

  1. Verify that you're connected to a campus network connection or to the Husky OnNet (Big-IP Edge) VPN.
  2. Open your computer's file manager and right-click on This PC and select Map Network Drive

  3. In the dialog
    1. Select H: as the Drive 
    2. In the folder, type \\netid.washington.edu\mws\homedir\<your_netid> (replace <your_netid> with your actual UW NetID)
    3. Select "Connect with different credentials"
    4. (Optional) Select "Reconnect at sign-in"
    5. Click Finish


  4. When you are prompted for your credentials, enter netid\ and then your UW NetID
