Physical access to HRC is controlled by the Campus Automated Access Management System (CAAMS), and access to non-public spaces is granted to individuals through their Husky card.
The CAAMS system uses UW Groups to identify everyone who should have access. Access to these groups is automatically synchronized with central campus data from a database controlled by the SPH Dean's Office, managed by David Grayston.
Access Hours
Faculty and staff in DGH have 24/7 access to public spaces and floors G, 2, 3, 4, 7 and 8.
Students have access to the same spaces but their access is limited to business hours, 7:45am-5pm.
Conference Rooms
The HRC conference rooms have badged access controls. The conference rooms are unlocked during business hours (7:45-5pm) and accessible to anyone with access to the floor.
Public Spaces
Information about public space hours can be found on the
HRC Intranet.
Granting Access
Access Groups
Staff and Faculty
Staff and faculty in Global Health should be automatically granted based on their status. This includes all staff who are part of Global Health groups, even if they do not have an office in HRC or on UW campus. Staff at NJB, along with staff who are telecommuting or remote, are all included in the access group.
If a staff or faculty member's Husky card is not granting access, see Troubleshooting, below.
Students
Students enrolled in GH programs (graduate programs, major or minor). should be automatically granted access to floors G, 2, 3, 4, 7, and 8 based on their status and affiliation. Their access is from 7:45am-5pm daily. Students will lose access if their major or program affiliation changes, at the end of the relevant quarter.
If a student's Husky card is not granting access, see Troubleshooting, below.
Anyone with an active Husky card can be granted access to the building by adding them to the exceptions group in the table above. Note that it grants access to the entire SPH general access level, and is not limited to GH spaces.
In order to preserve building security, exceptions should be minimal and the exceptions list should be audited regularly.
Troubleshooting Access to Floors
- If someone should be able to access HRC or the GH floors, the first step is to check their membership in the relevant group based on their affiliation (faculty, student, or staff).
- If they are not included in the appropriate group, that should be addressed with HR (in the case of faculty or staff) or the registrar's office (in the case of students).
- If they are in the correct group, check the History tab to verify the time and date they were added to the system. The CAAMS system does not instantly synchronize, so it make take up to a couple of hours for access to be granted.
- If they are in the group and a sufficient amount of time has passed, check to confirm whether their access is working on any of the doors/elevators or only for specific doors.
- If they have access to some doors but not others or their access is inconsistent, it may be the case that their card has been damaged and needs to be replaced.
- If they have no access, contact SPH IT office: sphit@uw.edu
