Change Your Name in Email and Teams

Your display name in your email and across UW services is controlled by the UW Identity Service. More details are available on the UW IT page about the UW Identity Service.

Change My Preferred Name

If you want to change how your name appears in email or in other UW services:
  1. Log in to https://identity.uw.edu
  2. Click "Edit" next to your Preferred Name

Change My Directory Listing

If you want to control how your information is displayed in the UW Directory:
  1. Log in to https://identity.uw.edu
  2. Scroll down to Information Sharing Settings
  3. Check the boxes next to select or de-select the options for:
    1. Publish your information in the UW Directory
    2. Show email address(es)
    3. Show address(es)

Change My Picture in Teams and Office

Within Microsoft Office (including Teams, Outlook, and other programs), if you are logged in to your UW Microsoft Account, you will see either your initials or your profile image. 
To change your profile picture in your Microsoft account at the University of Washington, follow these steps:
  1. Go to the Office 365 portal and log in using your UW NetID.
  2. Click on your initials or profile icon located in the top right corner of the page.

  3. Select the option to change your profile picture.
  4. A window will pop up allowing you to upload a new image. Choose the desired photo from your device and confirm the upload.
